FROM THE EDITOR: Regulation of Fans, Blowers Comes to U.S
Dawn of a New Era: The Regulation of Commercial and Industrial Fans and Blowers—In a long-anticipated but no less monumental development, regulation has come to the U.S. market for commercial and industrial fans and blowers. Where a federal test procedure and energy standard and a California efficiency regulation stand and where they likely are headed.
U.S. Regulations for Air-Circulating Fans—The U.S. Department of Energy in 2022 and 2023 published final rules updating the federal test procedure for ceiling fans and establishing a new federal test procedure for air-circulating fans that are not ceiling fans. We take a look at the scope and essential provisions of the two regulations and provide guidance on distinguishing compliant fans from noncompliant ones.
Maintaining Indoor-Air Quality with Air Curtains—Experiments show air curtains are effective in both disinfecting building air and preventing the infiltration of airborne particulates.
Mitigating Environmental Noise from the Operation of Mechanical Equipment—The machines that heat, cool, and ventilate our buildings are wonders of modern invention.
