Real-World Testing Conditions

AMCA laboratories can test more than 20 air system products for various efficiencies, leakage, stability, and sound. We can evaluate your products based on their performance. Replicating real-world conditions such as rain, sand, wind, extreme temperatures, and other environmental factors enables us to test how well your product can withstand category-three hurricanes, desert sandstorms, and other harsh conditions.

Raising the Standard in Testing

Referenced in engineering specifications worldwide, AMCA test standards are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), with most methods harmonized with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The type of product and performance of interest dictates which AMCA/ANSI Test Standard and AMCA Rating Program Document is applied. Sometimes, two products tested in the same way can be rated differently.

AMCA standards are essential peer-vetted resources that are continually revised to accommodate changing codes and regulations, ensuring that your product testing will always reflect current best practices.

Equipment

The AMCA International laboratory includes:

Four reverberation rooms ranging in size from 6,300 cu ft (178 m³) to 65,500 cu ft (1,855 m³), where inlet, outlet, and total sound power are measured.
Two water-test chambers in which up to 8-in.- (20 cm) per-hour rainfall and 50-mph (22.4 m/s) wind can be simulated for tests of the water-rejection capabilities of louvers.
Three multi-nozzle chambers capable of measuring up to 88,000-cfm (41.53 m³/s) airflow.
A thrust-measurement rig able to accommodate circulating fan heads up to 72 in. (183 cm) in diameter.
Adjacent reverberant rooms used for testing acoustical louvers in accordance with ASTM E90, Standard Test Method for Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions and Elements.
A rig for testing ceiling fans up to 18 ft (5.5 m) in diameter. Larger fans up to 24 ft (7.3 m) in diameter are tested off site.
A rig for testing jet fans up to 55 in. (140 cm) in diameter.

Laboratory Accreditation vs Certified Ratings Program

The laboratory accreditation program does not replace the AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) for products and is separate from the AMCA Laboratory Accreditation Program. Product performance data based on tests conducted in an AMCA Accredited Laboratory should not be considered as being authorized to display the AMCA CRP Seal or Labels. However, laboratory accreditation is not required for a manufacturer to obtain AMCA Certified Ratings for products.

Accredited Laboratory Program

The AMCA International Laboratory Accreditation Program uses testing methods recognized by AMCA Publication 111 and conducts strict audits of test equipment and laboratory procedures to ensure reliability and competence.

The average path to laboratory accreditation takes nine months and requires significant resources and time. Before considering laboratory accreditation, purchase and review the AMCA Publication 111-13 I Laboratory Accreditation Program.

Accreditation remains valid for three years, during which the quality of equipment and testing procedures must be maintained to ensure continued compliance.

Eligibility

Manufacturing companies that regularly design, fabricate, assemble, and sell products within the scope of AMCA air systems can participate in the program as either a member or affiliate. AMCA is a not-for-profit organization that offers knowledge, expertise, and certification resources exclusively to its members and affiliates through an application process.

Phase One: Application

Phase Two: Laboratory Accreditation Enrollment

Accredited vs Certified

It is important to understand that the AMCA Laboratory Accreditation Program and the AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) are two separate entities. Manufacturers should not consider product performance data, which is based on tests conducted in an accredited laboratory, as authorization to use the AMCA Seal. It's worth noting that obtaining laboratory accreditation is not mandatory for manufacturers to obtain AMCA CRP for their products.
