    Introducing the Fan Energy Index

Version: October 2016 (Click here for the White Paper)

By Tim Mathson, Rad Ganesh, Steve Dikeman, Kim Osborn, Mark Bublitz, Mark Stevens and Michael Ivanovich
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This document defines the fan energy index (FEI), an energy efficiency metric for fans first developed by AMCA International. This metric is further defined in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Term Sheet,1 a document approved by the DOE that resulted from public negotiations on what a DOE-fan-efficiency regulation would contain.

Introduction to Intake and Exhaust Louvers

Version: June 2016 (Click here for the White Paper)

By AMCA International Louver Marketing Task Force
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This white paper will provide an overview of basic louver function and describe many of the louver designs found on the market today.

Introducing the AMCA Fan Energy Waste Calculator

Version: April 2016 (Click here for the White Paper)

By Nazme Mohsina and Michael Ivanovich
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This white paper describes how how and why the AMCA Fan Energy Waste Calculator was developed, documents underlying assumptions, sources of data and examples of the calculator’s insights.

Introducing the AMCA Sand Louver Test Standard

Version: March 2016 (Click here for the White Paper)

By the AMCA Sand Louver Committee
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This white paper describes how airborne sand has posed an increasing challenge for HVAC service technicians and how sand louvers can help mitigate sand-related problems.

    High Performance Air Systems

Version: January 2016 (Click here for the White Paper)

By AMCA High Performance Air Systems Task Force
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This paper will show that ducted high performance air systems (HPASs), when compared to ductless water/refrigerant-based systems, offer benefits that include higher efficiency, lower first and life cycle costs, minimal refrigerant risk, quieter, and better air filtration.

How to Ensure AMCA-Certified Products Get Installed

Version: September 2015 (Click here for the White Paper)

    By Lisa Ullrich
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

This white paper describes what building industry professionals need to know to properly specify an AMCA-certified product and then ensure that product gets installed. Included are a handy step-by-step checklist and several practical examples.

Review of the Fan 2015 International Conference on Fan Noise, Technology and Numerical Methods

Version: August 2015 (Click here for the White Paper)

    By Anthony Sheard
    AGS Consulting LLC, Atlanta, Georgia

A review of the papers presented at the Fan 2015 conference hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Centre Technique des Industries Mecaniques (Cetim) and Centre Technique des Industries Aerauliques et Thermiques (Cetiat), focusing on fans intended for air movement application.

Fire and Smoke Dampers: Best Practice Design Tips

Version: June 2015 (Click here for the White Paper)

By Michael J. Bulzomi, Marty Gissel, Dane Carey, Joe Dahlheimer and Larry Felker

Fire and smoke dampers reduce fire severity and spread, enable fire suppression systems to operate more effectively, and limit property damage. But most importantly, they save lives. This white paper illustrates why fire and smoke dampers are a vital part of a total fire protection plan, and it includes practical design tips to help engineers reduce risk and minimize cost.

An Introduction to AMCA Certified Ratings Program
Version: January 2015 (Click here for the White Paper)
By Lisa Ullrich, Joe Brooks and Michael Ivanovich
    AMCA International, Arlington Heights, Illinois

A detailed explanation of how the AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) works; how to properly specify AMCA-certified products for air systems; and a mapping of the different AMCA CRP seals/labels, publications and test standards applicable to the 21 air movement and control products covered by the CRP.

Guideline Specifications for Selected AMCA-Certified Products
