About the AMCA International Laboratory
AMCA International’s testing laboratory is equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and performs tests in accordance with all of AMCA International’s test standards and other international standards. The equipment is continually calibrated and checked against dozens of AMCA International’s accredited laboratories around the world.

The laboratory is operated on a not-for-profit basis with the fees for testing services offsetting the cost of operation. AMCA International also performs contract tests for interested parties. By mutual agreement with the client, these test procedures can be modified and adapted to test many other devices used to move or control air.

AMCA International’s lab performs tests on the following products:

Fans

Air performance testing includes:

  • Development of fan curves.
  • Measurement of airflow, pressure, power, and efficiency.

Test standards that apply to air performance testing include:

  • AMCA International’s 210, Laboratory Methods of Testing Fans for Aerodynamic Performance Rating
  • AMCA International’s 220, Test Methods for Air Curtain Units
  • AMCA International’s 230, Laboratory Methods of Testing Air Circulator Fans for Rating
  • AMCA International’s 240, Laboratory Method of Testing Positive Pressure Ventilators for Rating
  • ISO 5801, Industrial Fans – Performance Testing Using Standardized Airways

Sound

Sound testing includes:

  • Inlet sound power.
  • Outlet sound power.
  • Total sound power.

Test standards that apply to sound testing include:

  • AMCA International’s 300, Reverberant Room Method for Sound Testing of Fans
  • AMCA International’s Residential Ventilation 915, Procedure for Loudness Rating of Residential Fan Products

Dampers

  • Pressure drop.
  • Leakage performance.


Test standards that apply to damper testing include:

  • AMCA International’s 500-D, Laboratory Methods of Testing Dampers for Rating

Louvers

  • Pressure drop.
  • Leakage.
  • Resistance to water and wind driven rain.
  • Sound transmission loss of acoustic louvers.

Test standards that apply to louver testing include:

  • AMCA International’s 500-L, Laboratory Methods of Testing Air Louvers for Rating
  • ASTM E90, Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions and Elements

Airflow Measurement Stations

  • Accuracy and pressure drop.

Test standards that apply to airflow measurement station testing include:

Fire, Smoke, Combination Fire/Smoke Dampers

  • Underwriters Lab (UL) testing of the devices using heated airflow condition.

Test standards that apply to fire, smoke, combination fire/smoke dampers testing include:

  • AMCA International’s 500-D, Laboratory Methods of Testing Dampers for Rating
  • Underwriters Laboratories 555, Fire Dampers
  • Underwriters Laboratories 555S, Smoke Dampers

Contract Testing

Non-standard tests can be performed to meet customer requirements when within the physical capabilities of AMCA International’s facilities.
