Welcome to the DECEMBER 2011 issue of AMCA Energy Focus!

AMCA Energy Focus is a monthly newsletter that informs members of AMCA International and the public on the latest developments in energy codes, standards, events, and news impacting air systems in commercial and industrial buildings.

Key stories:

Free AMCA Standards for International Green Construction Code

Tis the season to be jolly, and to give presents. And believe me, we're still feeling quite jolly at AMCA headquarters knowing AMCA standards for fan efficiency grades and air curtains will be in the 2012 IGCC. So, AMCA is pleased to announce that it is waving the purchase costs and electronic handling fees of the following publications to celebrate:

Note: those requesting hardcopies will still have to pay shipping and handling charges.

Plan to attend the AMCA 2-hr seminar on air systems at the AHR Expo

AMCA's seminar, How to Design High-Performance Air Systems for the Life of the Building, at the 2012 AHR Expo in Chicago will be held on Tuesday, January 24 from 3:00-5:00 pm. The location is Room S101b in McCormick Place.

The seminar features four engineering and construction experts providing detailed guidance on how to reduce first cost and operating costs for air systems in commercial buildings.

Engineers, contractors, and commissioning providers will learn about:

Update on ASHRAE 90.1 Addendum u for fan efficiency

AMCA helped prepare revised language for ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Addendum u, which establishes fan-efficiency requirements for fans in buildings covered by the 90.1 title, purpose, and scope.

A preliminary version of Addendum u, which AMCA helped draft, underwent an advisory public peer review over the summer. The ASHRAE 90.1 Mechanical Subcommittee reviewed the comments and subsequently asked AMCA to help revise the next version of the addendum. AMCA obtained input from staff, members, and external resources and worked with the AMCA Fan Committee to develop the language.

The language, approved by the Fan Committee, was then reviewed and approved by the Air Movement Code Action Review Committee and delivered to the chair of the ASHRAE 90.1 Mechanical Subcommittee for review and editing leading up to SSPC 90.1 meetings in Chicago in January.
